How to tell it apart

Not to be confused with: Lane and mutton snapper

Yellowtail has one bold yellow stripe from snout to a deeply forked, all-yellow tail, and no dark spot on the flank. Lane and mutton snappers both carry a dark spot on the side below the dorsal fin.
