How to tell it apart

Not to be confused with: Pompano dolphinfish

Mahi-mahi is deepest just behind the head and tapers to the tail, and the edge of its anal fin is concave. Pompano dolphinfish is smaller, deepest near mid-body, with a convex anal fin edge.
