How to tell it apart

Not to be confused with: Spanish hogfish

Hogfish has a long pig-like snout, three long trailing first dorsal spines and a black spot at the rear base of the dorsal fin. Spanish hogfish is a much smaller reef wrasse, purple-blue above and yellow behind, with no trailing spines.
